The Sunday, March 30, 1931, edition of the Pensacola News Journal reported the following:
If a motorist hits a cow in Alabama, it must be a mischievous or ill-tempered one in order for the driver to collect any payment. The state supreme court determined that cultured cows and well-behaved bulls are allowed to wander along the streets. If a motorist collides with a cultured one, they are not due recompense.
If it was a nasty-dispositioned cow or bull, the owner will be required to pay for the damages.
But…who determines the disposition of the cow? Probably the police.
