Fall weather has officially arrived in downtown Pensacola, making it the perfect time to explore the city’s hidden history.
While our Sweet Tea Murders Historic Walking Tours step off every Saturday at 4:00 PM (departing from Bodacious, 407 S. Palafox St.), mark your calendar for a featured walk on Saturday, October 17!

The forecast is shaping up to be ideal for an unhurried 90-minute stroll: crisp autumn air with an afternoon high in the comfortable 70s, an evening low of 58°, and only a slight 24% chance of rain. (While we will be walking rain or shine on October 10 as well, the 17th promises prime sweater-weather for walking the brick avenues!)
Our spotlight stop for October 17 examines the sensational 1914 Escambia County Courthouse shooting of Buster Brown by Florence McGowan. We will stand directly across from Plaza Ferdinand at Palafox and Government Streets where three gunshots echoed from a second-story office, explore the courtroom trial that captivated the South, and break down why an all-male jury delivered an astonishing acquittal under the cultural doctrine of the “unwritten law.”
