New Event: Midday Murder Mystery at Bodacious

Looking for a unique way to spend a Saturday afternoon? Escape the Florida summer heat and step into one of Pensacola’s most fascinating true crime stories with Michael Earl Simmons at Bodacious Restaurant, located at 407 S. Palafox Street.

A Murder Mystery Rooted in Pensacola History

This isn’t your typical event. Guests will enjoy light accompaniments with Bodacious Olive oils and vinegars served with fresh bread while hearing the story of a real murder that took place in 1882 at the doorway of Hamilton’s Saloon, which once stood on the very spot occupied by today’s Bodacious Restaurant. As Michael Earl Simmons recounts the shocking events, attendees will be sitting at the exact location where history unfolded more than 140 years ago.

The Villar/Glennon Killing

The story begins with Captain Martin Villar, a respected Pensacola mariner who became involved in a violent altercation at the infamous Half-Way House near the waterfront. Villar was stabbed and later died from his injuries. His attacker, Glennon, was charged with murder.

The case seemed open and shut. But when Glennon went to trial, the jury returned a stunning verdict: Not Guilty.

That should have ended the story, but it didn’t.

Just days later, Glennon encountered Captain Victor Lyle, a witness who had testified against him, at Hamilton’s Saloon. Another confrontation erupted. This time, Glennon would not walk away.
