The Last Stop

The Final Capture of Ted Bundy—and the Officer Who Fought and Defeated Him
Thursday, November 12, 2026 • 6:00 PM
Museum of Commerce • 201 Zaragoza Street, Pensacola
One desperate fugitive. One determined police officer. One final stop.
During the early morning hours of February 15, 1978, Pensacola Police Officer David Lee spotted a stolen Volkswagen near Oscar’s Restaurant. When Lee attempted to arrest the driver, the fugitive violently resisted and tried to seize the officer’s gun—a struggle that could only end in death or defeat. Lee fought back, overpowered his attacker, and then chased him when he tried to escape. In the darkness of a Pensacola night, one determined patrol officer decisively defeated one of America’s most dangerous killers.
The driver was Theodore Robert Bundy, one of the most notorious fugitives in American history.
Join author and crime and criminal justice historian Michael Earl Simmons for the remarkable true story of Bundy’s final hours of freedom, his desperate confrontation with Officer Lee, and the arrest that placed Pensacola at the center of one of America’s most infamous criminal cases.
The Last Stop moves beyond the carefully cultivated image of Bundy as a handsome, calculating criminal. This is the story of a coward who preyed upon vulnerable and unsuspecting victims—and the persistent patrol officer whose bulldog determination finally brought Bundy to the end of the road.
