On October 31, 1950, the Pensacola News Journal announced that it would begin an officer of the year program. The Journal highlighted officers every week and allowed viewers to send in nominations for the Officer of the year. Here is one that was displayed on November 2, 1950.
Andy Ambrose went on to join the Escambia Sheriff’s Office and served for many years. He became somewhat of a legend because of his stability and decision-making. He retired as Chief Deputy.
